Wendell D. Wright

WRIGHT – Wendell D., 87, Summerhill, went to be with the Lord, April 11, 2024. Born June 26, 1936, in Wilmore, son of Harry J. “Buzz” and K. Ruth (Mangus) Wright. Preceded in death by parents; and brother, Norman Bruce “Dutch” Wright.

Survived by loving wife of 62 years, JoAnn (Maticic) Wright, whom he married October 26, 1961; son, Darren Wright; daughters, Denise Wright; Tammy Wright; Kelli (Patrick Cole); and Heather (Jesse Fisk); grandchildren, Shane, Haylie, Laekyn, Corey, Kassie, Brenna, Kayla, Hunter, Cooper, Caden, Chelsea, and Cameron; great grandchildren, Aubree, Callie, Addison, Emma, Parker, Colt, Paislee, and another on the way; brothers, George “Earl” Wright (Nancy Coleman); Dave Wright (Velda Ross); and sisters, Ida (Ed Beyer) and Cindy (Dave Penatzer).

Graduate of Wilmore High School, class of 1956. US Army veteran having served from 1959 – 1961. Retired foreman from Quaker Sales, owner of Wrightview Percherons; and member of the Pennsylvania Percheron Association. Wendell understood the quiet bond between man and horse, he appreciated the majesty and strength of Percheron draft horses; and was a steward of their legacy. He enjoyed going to hunting camp, fairs, and the Pennsylvania Farm Show; wagon train trips and attending his grandchildren’s events.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork; the Reverends Thomas Moore and Daryl Penrod presiding. 

Interment, Mount Olive Cemetery. Military rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
