McCALL – Violette F., 99, John Paul II Manor, Cresson, formerly of Summerhill, died April 24, 2016. Born March 12, 1917, in Summerhill, daughter of Jacob F. and Amelia (Long) Hoover. Preceded in death by parents; her sweetheart of 52 years, husband, John W. McCall, who died Sept. 4, 1990; granddaughter, Nancy Joyce McCall; great-granddaughter, Amelia Katherine Law; sisters, Josepha Gallardy, Blanche Wilburn and Burnetta Mervine; brothers, John, Clarus "Jim," and Wilber Hoover; and infant brother, Jacob. Survived by children, Stephanie, wife of Frank Dorsch, Durham, N.C.; Geoffrey, married to Joyce (Watkins), New Germany; Claudia, wife of Edwin Franz, Cincinnati, Ohio; and John W. II "Woody," married to Lynne (Shrift), Summerhill; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Previte, Forest Hills Personal Care Home, Sidman. Violette was a 1935 graduate of South Fork High School and was a beautician for more than 30 years. She was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. John the Baptist Church, Summerhill, where she sang in the choir and was active with their Altar Rosary Society. As an active member of her community, she enjoyed volunteering for the Johnstown Symphony Auxiliary. She was a member of Serra Club of Cambria County, Johnstown Mercy Guild of Caring Friends and the Summerhill Women's Club. Violette enjoyed gardening and world travel. She most enjoyed good times and visiting her family. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where the Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at St. John's Catholic Church, by Father Leon Hont, OSB. Committal, St. Marys Cemetery, New Germany.
