NOVAK – Veronica A., 76, Portage, after a brief battle with brain cancer, passed away peacefully at home April 2, 2025, surrounded by cherished family, and joined the presence of the Lord.
Born October 28, 1948, in Portage; daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Kwiatkowski) Ocilka.
Survived by loving husband of 50 years, Joe Novak, whom she married October 12, 1974; beloved daughters, Michelle and Angela Novak; sisters, Barbara (Robert Novotny) and Frances (William Kinley); brother, Michael (Ellen Pentrack); grand-pups, Mia and Maizy; as well as a very long list of loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and more nieces and nephews than one could imagine.
Veronica was a graduate of Portage Area High School, class of 1966. She was a devout Catholic, and a gifted and loving member of the Portage Catholic community. Through every challenge and every joy, she found strength and guidance through prayer; with special devotions offered to Saint Padre Pio. Her faith was not just a part of her life—it was her life, a testament to the strength and comfort that can be found in trust and devotion to God. Books were her escape, her companion, and often, her teacher. She loved to lose herself in the pages of a good novel. She remained a dedicated and loyal Pirate’s fan —hoping that next year would be the year! Through every chapter of her life, Veronica demonstrated what it means to live with faith, hope, and love. She trusted God through every season, knowing that no matter what came her way, she was never alone. She was not just our mother; she was the “Best mom in the World.” And one of the strongest people anyone had ever met.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at noon Monday April 7, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Portage; Father Thomas Stabile, TOR, celebrant. Private Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery.
