STRAYER – Shirley R., 84, South Fork, went peacefully to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family September 24, 2017, at Windber Hospice. Born March 17, 1933, in Summerhill, daughter of Charles E. and Naomi R. (Gallagher) Brewer. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Donald Gale Strayer, who died July 9, 1998; granddaughter, Jill (Johnson) Cekada; brother, Charles and sister-in-law, Arlene Brewer.
Survived by children, Donald, married to Pam (Croyle), Mount Hope; Lori, wife of John Johnson; Brian, married to Mary Ann (Swelfer); Larry, married to Marianne (Croyle); and Kathy Thornton, all of South Fork; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Sally, wife of Pete Timko, Richland; Patricia, widow of Roy Green, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and Bonnie, widow of George Novotny, Summerhill.
Shirley was a graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, Class of 1952. Member of South Fork First United Methodist Church, where she was active with their Sunday School and Philathea Class. For more than 20 years she helped patrons from behind the counter at O’shea’s Candies in Geistown. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the Forest Hills Senior Center and always looked forward to traveling. She will forever be remembered for the love she shared and her selfless devotion to her family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Viewing also at First United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Terry Trudgen officiating.
Interment, South Fork Cemetery.
