GILLMAN – Russell G., 98, Mount Hope, went to be with the Lord, October 31, 2018, at Windber Hospice. Born September 17, 1920, in Adams Township, the last surviving child of Samuel and Della (Rager) Gillman.
Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Dorothy Mae (Keiper) Gillman, who died April 22, 2014; daughter, Lucretia Moss; son, Samuel Gillman; brothers, John, Orrin, Clair, Fred and Wesley; twin sister, Ruth Wirick; sister, Sylvia Gillman; and infant sister, Vinnie.
Survived by daughter, Kathy, wife of Jack Custer, Mount Hope; and son, Russell E., married to Monica (Miller), Sidman; grandchildren, Brandy (Dan) Martin, Casey Moss, Greg (Nicole) Custer, Jeff (Bre) Custer, Amanda (Dom) Vescovi, Brock Peterson, Ashley (Matt Ramus) Gillman and Katie Gillman, engaged to Todd Plummer; fourteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Larry Moss, Marlton, New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Russell was a lifetime member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church, where he was a past Sunday School Supervisor, Treasurer and Trustee. Purple Heart recipient and US Army veteran of WWII having served in the European Theatre and the North African Campaign. He was a retired roller from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Gautier Division. He was a member of the St. Michael American Legion Post 551, was actively involved with the local chapter of Boy Scouts of America, the Mount Hope Cemetery Association, served as an election constable and enjoyed spending time at his beloved camp.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Viewing will also be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, the Reverend Joseph Stains and the Reverend Larry Rowe officiating.
