Rose M. Golas

GOLAS - Rose Marie (Turgeon), 81, New Germany, died March 5, 2022. Born June 6, 1940, in Windber, daughter of Albert J. and Pauline (Likovich) Turgeon. Preceded in death by parents; loving husband of 54 years, Ernest Golas, who died April 18, 2016; and brother, Andrew Turgeon.
Survived by her seven children, Mary Ann Golas, Karen Golas, Ruth Golas, Sylvia Golas, Ernest J. Golas, Theresa (Marty) Watters, and Elizabeth (Frédéric) Goutte; five grandchildren, Natacha, Léa, Lilly, Marshall, and Nora; sister, Patricia (Charles) Makosky; and brother, Arthur (Victoria) Turgeon.
She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1961. As a young registered nurse, she worked in Detroit, Michigan, as a visiting nurse, teaching underprivileged mothers how to care for their newborn babies. She then left her nursing career to lovingly and carefully raise seven children with her devoted husband, Ernest Golas. When her children were grown, she returned to nursing and worked as a nurse supervisor at Patriot Manor in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Upon retiring from nursing, she enjoyed working as a medical proof-reader at Sally Sargent's Transcription Service in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, for many years. Rose Marie was the guiding light of her family, and the world is a much darker place without her.
Visitation and Mass will be private.
