BURNS – Robert E. “Ned,” 90, South Fork, died June 2, 2024 at home. Born July 9, 1933, in Ehrenfeld, son of William and Margaret (Donaghy) Burns. Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Pauline (Breto), who died April 25, 2019; sisters, Agnes “Honey” Novak and Margaret “Peg” Poponak; and brothers, William, Thomas, and John “Jack” Burns.
Survived by brother, James Burns, Olmstead Falls, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, South Fork. Ned was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Former Commander of American Legion Post 653, South Fork; Trustee and Surgeon of VFW Post 7524, South Fork; member of Menoher VFW Post 155, Richland; and member of The Society of Forty and Eight. Ned retired from the Maintenance Department at Laurel Crest. He was a true patriot and tireless advocate for his fellow veterans and their families; organizing events, raising funds with tickets in hand and a smile on his face, always ensuring that the sacrifices of those who served were remembered and honored.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Visitation at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, followed by Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Father Joseph C. Nale, celebrant.
