WISHNESKI – Richard W., 80, Altoona, formerly of Horseheads, New York; passed away at home February 24, 2021. Born October 19, 1940, in Portage; the last surviving child of Frederick Sr. and Jennie (Cameron) Wishneski. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Fred Jr., Robert, Carl, Raymond, and Gerald; and sisters, Maureen Wishneski, Margaret Ann Wishneski, Betty Connors, Lillian Bopp, and Martha Kline.
Survived by loving and devoted wife, Frances M. (Haynes) Wishneski, whom he married June 27, 1970; nieces, Mary Jane Helman, Donna Sawarynski, Deborah Neff, and Kimberly Mayes; nephews, Jeff Kline, Greg Kline, Fred Connors, Jody Zwick, and Wade Wishneski; and numerous beloved great nieces and nephews.
Graduate of Portage Area High School, class of 1958. US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and member of the American Legion Post 154, Elmira, New York. Richard “Uncle Dick” was employed with The Great A&P Tea Company, Horseheads, New York; and retired from the US Small Business Administration as a loan officer. He shared a storybook tale of love with his best friend and beloved wife of 50 years. His hope, courage, and optimism was an inspiration to all as he endured the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s Disease for more than 2 decades. His family will fondly cherish the many memories they shared together.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon Saturday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Maple Street, South Fork; the Reverend Walter Startzel presiding.
