LONG – Richard E., 89, of New Germany, passed away April 7, 2024, at home. Born January 21, 1935, in New Germany, son of Albert J. and Clara H. (Weinzierl) Long. Preceded in death by parents; infant daughter, Mary Catherine; sisters, Grace Heinlein, Leona Schissler, Rosemary Gill, Louis Whiteford, Barbara Dumn; and brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Raymond, and Clair.
Survived by loving wife, Mary Louise (Brawley) Long; children, Donald – New Germany, Deborah Clark – Raleigh NC; William, married to Barbara (Fedornock), Irwin, PA; Ann, wife of (Stanley Dutko), Beauville, NC; James, partner (Renee Detwiler), Wesley Chapel, PA; and Joseph, Ashburn, VA; grandchildren; Debra Clark – Elizabeth; William Long; Bethany Briscoe, Brittany Kohl, Benjamin; Ann Dutko – Heather Sewalish, Jay Musselman; Jim Long – Faith Long; great grandchildren; Bethany Briscoe – Juliet, Clara, Bailey, Millie; Britany Kohl – Camden, Gavin, Gracie; Jay Musselman- Jayden; and siblings, Camillus, married to Betty (Demko), Mount Hope; Vera Noll, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania; and Joyce, wife of Thomas Gregorich, Mineral Point. sister-in-law, Diana (Davis) Long, Lima, Ohio, brothers-in-law, Robert Whiteford, Portage; and Pat Dumm, New Germany.
Richard retired from Bethlehem Steel after 32 years. He had a deep sense of connection to God, his fellow parishioners, and to the timeless traditions of his Catholic faith. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and attended Mass at Holy Name daily. He often spoke fondly of his years as a little league coach and to him, golf was more than just a game; it was a time of camaraderie and a journey of self-discovery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Joseph C. Nale, celebrant.
