Richard J. Facciani

September 11, 1933 — January 25, 2025

FACCIANI – Richard J., 91, Richland, passed away on January 25, 2025. Born on September 11, 1933, in South Fork. Preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Elizabeth (Verish) Facciani; wife, Mildred (O’Yaski), who died August 12, 2008; brothers, Harry, Fred, and Joseph; and sister, Leona Gdula.

Survived by children, Greg, married to Donna (Prince); Patrick, married to Joanne (Cornaccia); Rob; Timothy, married to Kathi (Hoover); Tammy, wife of Ron Webb; Amy, wife of James “Jimbo” Miller; and Richard, married to Erica (Stiffler); brothers, Robert, Edward, and Steve; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

Richard was a graduate of the former South Fork/Croyle High School, where he met and would later marry the love of his life, Mildred. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1953-1955. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he worked in the Johnstown plant of Bethlehem Steel, where he retired as a maintenance supervisor. In the 1960’s, Richard worked for his uncle at Modern Art and Plate Glass, Inc., where he learned the trade of making and installing stained glass. This incredible skill was used in the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Geistown, PA, where he helped install the stained glass windows that still stand today–a true testament to his faith, hard work, and commitment to the community, and was a project that he was immensely proud of. He also crafted beautiful stained glass lamps for each of his children. For over 40 years, Richard was a PIAA official, refereeing high school football, basketball, and baseball. A lover of the “Fighting Irish,” Richard enjoyed watching Notre Dame football and was a fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams as well. He also took up golfing in his retirement and was a member of the Windber Country Club, where he made many friends with the Duffers Group. Richard was a devout Catholic and a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in South Fork, PA, where he participated in the choir group and made many life-long friends. As a resident of the Graystone Apartments in Richland, he also made several friends down in the puzzle room, a hobby that he enjoyed for many years. He found peace in hunting and fly fishing with his children, particularly at Bob’s Creek and Yellow Creek, in Bedford County. Richard was a beloved son, brother, father, grandparent, and great-grandparent, and will be greatly missed by all.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 31, at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
