ENDLER, Regis E., 87, Johnstown, died February 8, 2024, at home. Born April 24, 1936, in Ehrenfeld, son of Reuben L. and Catherine "Sis" (Burger) Endler. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Joanne N. (Oswalt) Endler, who died March 10, 1985; and son-in-law, Mike Savlan.
Survived by children, Douglas (Francine Gacka), Duncansville; Donna Savlan (Joseph Rowinski), Mineral Point; and Daniel (Colleen Eppley), Richland; grandson, Benjamin Savlan, Mineral Point; and best friend, cherished companion, and attentive caregiver, Pat Vaneman.
Regis was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a graduate of South Fork- Croyle High School Class of 1954 and continued his academic endeavors at Lock Haven State Teachers' College where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Science Education in 1958, and then at Penn State University where he went on to earn his Master in Education in Science in 1963. Directly after completing his Bachelors, he took a position as a science teacher specializing in chemistry and physics at his Alma Mater, South Fork -Croyle High School, and later taught at Triangle Area High School, and finally Forest Hills High School where he retired in 1993. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown; where he served both the Lord and his fellow parishioners by being a dedicated Eucharistic Minister. Regis was also a member of N.E.A., P.S.E.A, PSERS, and Forest Hills Education Association where he held the position of Chief Negotiator. He further served his community by acting as a Council Member on the Geistown Boro Council for 10 years. He greatly enjoyed bowling, a game he perfected after 35 years of honing his skills, supporting the South Fork JayCees, and helping mentor the next generation of students by coaching football, baseball, and basketball. Regis also enjoyed attending Penn State football games.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Charles 0. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Rev. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal, St. Mary's Cemetery, New Germany. Military rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551. Thank you to each staff member of Windber Hospice for Regis’s excellent and compassionate care. Donations may be made to Windber Hospice or St. Benedict Catholic Church in Regis’ name.
