CHRIST – Phyllis M. “Whitey,” 81, Sidman, died peacefully December 20, 2022, at home surrounded by loving family. Born March 28, 1941, in Johnstown, daughter of George S. and Katherine M. (Urbassik) Hritz. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Walter H. “Buck” Christ Sr., who died March 22, 2015; son, Allan L. Christ; sisters, Margaret Hritz, Anna Cassick, Pauline Miller, Gertrude Toth, Emma DeAngelo, Katherine Kormanik, Caroline Roman, Dorothy Shellhammer, and Sophie Roman-Drugo; and brothers, Thomas, George, and Walter Hritz.
Survived by sons, Walter H. Jr., married to Mary (Stahr); Eric L., married to Peggy (Williams); and Daniel T., married to Monica (Swaney), all of Sidman; grandchildren, Walter III, Jacqueline, Aaron, Genevieve, Daniel Jr., Leah, Sondra, Beth, Griffin, and Kaden; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Nihoff; brothers, Richard and Alvin Hritz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael. For those who knew her, she will be remembered as someone who always made you feel welcome and ensured your stomach was full. She never hesitated to provide her honest opinion – whether you wanted it or not – and she could frequently be seen sporting her well earned tan from the many hours spent working on the farm.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Monsignor David Lockard, celebrant.
