SIMMONS – Norma “Jean,” 87, died April 18, 2024, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born May 7, 1936, in Windber, daughter of William J. Sr. and Pearl G. (Costlow) Simmons. Preceded in death by parents; sister-in-law, Alberta (Harding) Simmons; and great-niece, Elizabeth “Liz” Marie Simmons.
Survived by brother, William J. Simmons Jr., married to Bette Rae (MacIntyre); very special aunt, Virginia Phipps; nieces, Jeanne Hogestyn and Theresa Reed; nephews, David, John, Daniel, Paul, Michael, and Joseph Simmons; twenty-one great nieces and nephews, five great great nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
As a teacher, for nearly forty years she taught in the Parochial School System, the Freeport Area School District, and retired from the Forest Hills School District. She was an active member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in South Fork for many years. Upon moving to Arbutus Retirement Community, she joined St. Benedict Catholic Church in Geistown. She enjoyed volunteering in the Manor, whether it was delivering mail, sharing stories, or simply offering a listening ear, Jean's presence brought comfort to many.
Honoring her wishes, visitation will be private.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday April 26, 2024, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Father David Peles, celebrant.
