RIVA – Michael P., 67, Summerhill, died September 19, 2018, at Richland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Born March 16, 1951, in Spangler, son of Ralph and Sophia (Stefula) Riva. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Robert and John “Jack” Riva; and nephew and godson Josh Golden.
Survived by loving wife of 42 years, Deborah A. (Golden) Riva, whom he married November 22, 1975, Summerhill; son, Paul and grandchildren, Trinity and Tristin, all of Altoona. Brother of Jean Dishong, Ralph (Shirley), Ron (Erma), Teresa (Robert) Semelsberger, and Richard (Shirley). Also niece and goddaughter, Jolene (Golden) Myers; brothers-in-law, Deacon Richard (Jane) Golden and Stanley J. (Mary) Golden; and numerous other relatives and friends.
After graduating from Northern Cambria High School, Mike served his country by enlisting in the Army during the Vietnam War. Member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and St. Michael American Legion Post 551. He was a member of the UMWA having worked at Greenwich Collieries, Tri-State Belting, and retiring from Allegheny Belting, Inc. after 40 years. Mike enjoyed drag racing with his wife and son, and was an avid “great” hunter, archer, and fisherman, and loved raising deer.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore, Fr. Joseph Nale, Celebrant. Committal, Sherbine-Golden Cemetery. Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
