CANNONIE – Michael James “Mike,” 70, Johnstown, formerly of South Fork, passed away January 16, 2024, at home. Born April 9, 1953, in Johnstown, son of Michael James Cannonie Sr. and Helen (Conley) Homza. Preceded in death by parents; stepfather, Joseph Homza; infant brother, Robert (Bobby) Homza; and sister, Traila Graffius.
Survived by loving wife of 52 years, Joyce Ann (Mitchell) Cannonie, whom he married August 3, 1971; son, Michael Joseph, married to Amy (Friedman), Richland; daughter, Brenda Marie Holt, Pittsburgh; and son, Scott Erik, married to Wendy (Giffin), Johnstown; beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Sophia, Tyler, Conner, and Elliot; and great grandchildren, Carson and Cecilia.
Mike graduated from Forest Hills High School, Sidman. He was employed at Bethlehem Mine 33 for 23 years until they closed. He then drove commercial truck for various outfits before retiring from Valley Gas / Matheson Tri-Gas after 10 years. Mike cherished time camping and boating with his family. He loved pulling the kids and friends on skis or tubes and was certain he was the best ski boat captain around. He was an avid NASCAR and Steelers fan. Though he never fully recovered from an accident in July of 2020, he loved riding and traveling on his Harley Tri Glide with Joyce. He was a great husband, Dad, and Pap pap and will be forever missed.
Honoring his wishes, visitation and service will be private.
