Yoder - Mary Jo, 68, St. Michael, passed away peacefully February 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Born November 22, 1954 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Benjamin and Josephine (Chirillo) Kapitan.
Survived by children Jason Vivian (Rebekah); Jeff Vivian (Danielle); Allison Vivian-Shrift (Luke) and Emily Yoder. Brothers John and Benjamin Kapitan (Shari); sister Cecilia Kapitan-Cramer (Dan); grandchildren, Mackenzie, Haley, Olivia, Mason, Milania, Izabela, Layne, Saylor; all of her nieces and nephews; and her companion Nyko (the cat).
Mary Jo was a graduate of Richland High School, class of 1972. Although she grew up a “Ram,” she had no problem transitioning to a “Ranger.” She was a member of the Parkview Alliance Church in St. Michael where the members treat you as family. She worked for many years in several nursing facilities as a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Aide.
After retirement, you could find Mary Jo enjoying the company of her grandkids, whether it was doing different activities with them, baking cookies, watching them play outside and following their every move, to cheering for them at numerous sporting events. “Grandma Nona” was their number one fan. Being a “Grandma” was her favorite job. Family was of the upmost importance to her, sometimes waiting in the background for her turn to share the love. When she showed her energetic side, everyone around her knew it. She will be missed, but definitely not forgot.
A considerable amount of gratitude is given to the ICU Nurses and Doctors at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. They excelled in their compassion and care for her. They exceeded all expectations and should be commended for their efforts.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc. South Fork.
Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Parkview Alliance Church, St. Michael; Pastor Dave Armstrong presiding.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the family.
