SIVEC – Mary Irene, 98, South Fork, passed away May 21, 2019, at Maple Winds Care Center, Portage. Born April 25, 1921, in Dunlo, daughter of Anthony and Francis (Kocyancic) Oshaben. Preceded in death by parents; husband, John Sivec Sr., who died November 16, 1988; sisters, Dorothy Walker, Frances Hrebar and Josephine Danel; and brothers, Edward and Frank Oshaben.
Survived by sons, John Jr., married to Flossie (Hufford), Salix; and Neal, married to Mary Kay (Arbaugh), Windber; grandchildren, Jill Mains; John III, married to Amy (Russian); Tracy Sivec, wife of Thomas Presite; and Mark Sivec; great-grandchildren, Drew and Julia Sivec and Ruby Presite; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael. Graduate of Adams Township High School, class of 1939. She was a retired seamstress who worked for Cay Artley Dress Factory and K & B Sportswear. As an active member of her community Mary volunteered her time with many organizations over the years, including: St. Michael American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; St. Michael Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary; the church’s Martha’s Group; and Friends of Johnstown Flood National Memorial. She loved all things sewing and was known for her beautiful crochet work. Mary lived a full and loving life and though we are saddened she is no longer with us we find comfort in our memories of her.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where vigil will be held at 3 p.m. Friday.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Brian Warchola Celebrant.
