Mark Rowell Blaisdell

BLAISDELL – Mark Rowell, 81, Wilmore, passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania; March 18, 2020, due to a cardiac event.

Born January 11, 1939, in Johnstown, son of Eben Dustin and Margaret Ester (Kerr) Blaisdell-Seese. Preceded in death by parents; and step-father, Robert William Seese.

Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Ann (Huber) Blaisdell, whom he married August 28, 1965; son, Michael, married to Karen (Kessler), Mount Hope; daughters, Christine, wife of Brian “Rocky” Madison, Summerhill; Martha, wife of Brandon Ringler, South Fork; and Carla, wife of Jeremy Horvath, Sidman; and beloved grandchildren, Eben, Margaret “Maggie”, and Ely Thomas Blaisdell; Nathan and Alyssa Madison; and Lily and Emmy Horvath.

Member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and their church council. Mark was a retired drafting engineer and surveyor, having worked for L.R. Kimball, Ace Drilling and Cooney Brothers Coal Company. He was stationed in Kenitra, Morocco and Corpus Christi, Texas serving as an air traffic controller in the US Navy from 1957 to 1961. Mark dedicated much of his life to public service and to helping improve the community he cherished. Combined he served more than 40 years as Wilmore Borough Mayor and Manager. Past member of the Wilmore Water Authority, Wilmore Cable Company, Cambria County Planning Commission, Cambria County Recreation Authority, and Forest Hills School District Board of Directors as well as Portage Area Ambulance Association. He was an active member of the Forest Hills Regional Alliance and Forest Hills Municipal Authority boards. Mark was passionate about history and considered himself a “collector of trivia.” He was an avid railroad enthusiast, and longtime member of the Altoona Association of Model Railroaders, Strasburg Railroad Museum, and was proud to receive his 20-year pin from the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. He was the founder and visionary of Huckleberry Valley Railroad—a working scale replica of the Pennsylvania Railroad H10 freight engine he built together with his son.

Due to public health concerns surrounding COVID-19, visitation will be private to the family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore; Father Joseph C. Nale celebrant.

Due to the recommendation of the diocese, the Funeral Mass is limited to the immediate family.

Committal, St. Bartholomew Cemetery.

Though he fell asleep in this world, he has awakened in Heaven. The white light of God’s glory shines upon him. Not only does he live in the presence of God now, he has rejoined those loved ones who went before him and whom he has longed to see again.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 550 Main Street, South Fork, Pennsylvania 15956.
