LACKO – Margaret A. “Margie,” 94, St. Michael, passed away August 29, 2024, at Rose of Sharon, where she was the “Queen.” Born June 1, 1930, in Portage, she was the oldest of nine children. Preceded in death by parents, John “Motorcycle Pete” and Anna "Bubba" (Golden) Lacko; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Lacko and Alice, wife of Anthony “Mel” Miloro; niece, Michelle Waller; and sister-in-law, Gaye Lee (Mathieson) Lacko-Walters.
Survived by siblings, Betty, widow of Matthew Miloro; John, married to Janet (Huff); Joseph, married to Doris (Mathieson); Edward, married to Donna (Winkler); Patricia, widow of Jim DelBorgo; and Lawrence, married to Judy (Wise); and numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.
She once knew true love, but never married. In her 20’s, Margie embarked on a bold adventure, moving to New York City. There, she worked for Avon, and was a tour guide, sharing the wonders of the city with tourists. She had many careers. She worked in a silk mill, was a seamstress, served as a receptionist, switchboard operator, and later, found her true calling as a nurse’s aide at Laurel Crest Manor and Rose of Sharon; caring for others with compassion and kindness. Member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore; and the former Sacred Heart Parish, Portage. A devout Catholic, Margie was deeply involved in the Church. Her devotion was evident not only in her religious life but also in her community involvement as a Democratic Committee Woman. She loved to garden. She was a devoted daughter and sister, who lovingly cared for her mother and sister. She lived with a quiet strength, always putting others before herself, and in doing so, she touched countless lives.
Private visitation for family at the church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday. Public celebration of Mass at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Father Joseph C. Nale, celebrant.
