McGRATH—Margaret Rose, (McCall), 95, finished her journey to join her husband, family and friends in Heaven from McCullough Place in Johnstown on July 16, 2018. Born July 31, 1922 in Windber.
Daughter of Patrick and Mary (O’Rourke) McCall. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, John McGrath, sister, Kathryn (McCall) Wasson, and brothers James, Tom, and John McCall.
Survived by son, John McGrath and wife Anne (Hafeli) McGrath, and granddaughters Maura and Kate McGrath. Also, niece Janice (Wasson) Greco and grandniece Margaret Erin Greco, as well as nieces Kay (Wasson) Lagomarsino, Sharon (Wasson) Cash, and nephews Charles, Paul, John and Michael Wasson.
A 1940 graduate of South Fork High School and a 1942 graduate of the registered nurse program at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown. Margaret was a strong and fiercely independent woman from her early years to just the most recent days, tending to the flowers and yard at the home she shared with her husband and son for 50 years on McKinley Avenue in Johnstown’s 8th Ward neighborhood. She also lived independently with many friends at Greystone Court in Johnstown for seven years, and then at McCullough Place for the past year. Margaret was most proud of her time as a registered nurse in the operating room and the dispensary (emergency room) at Mercy Hospital and over the years, she served hundreds of patients, family members and friends in their time of need. She also enjoyed serving as the in-house nurse at Penn Traffic Department Store in Downtown Johnstown in the 1970s. Margaret was also very proud of her Irish heritage and travelled to Ireland to visit the ancestral homelands of her grandparents and great grandparents. Margaret was a parishioner for more than 50 years at Visitation Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies Columbian Circle, BPOE Elks, Retired Nurses Association and the Caring Hands group.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Maple Street in South Fork, as well as from 9 AM until the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday at Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church at 415 Tioga Street in Johnstown, Fr. Mark Begly celebrant.
She will be interred next to her husband at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown.
