PREBLE – Lorrena M., 85, Hope Valley, Rhode Island; formerly of South Fork, Pennsylvania; died January 21, 2023. Born March 24, 1937, in Johnstown, daughter of Ernest L. and Helen N. (Binduga) Miller. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Milton “Red” Preble, who died May 12, 2010; and sister-in-law, Elise (Nestle) Miller.
Survived by brother, Ernest G. Miller, Warner Robins, Georgia; sister, Lana S. (Miller) Groer, wife of Edward J. Groer, Baden, Pennsylvania; aunt, Opal Patterson; niece, Katherine Miller; nephews, Matthew and Clinton Miller and Eric and Chad Groer; and numerous beloved great nieces and nephews. Lorrena was a member of St. Joseph and St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Rhode Island; and attended Mass at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church; South Fork. She was a graduate of Adams Township High School, class of 1955; earned an undergraduate degree from Seton Hill and her master’s degree from Brown University. Her life as an educator for Warwick Public Schools was a source of deep pride and personal fulfillment. Aside from teaching for 35 years, she also served as a research associate in Leukemia Epidemiology, for the Rhode Island Hospital Department of Oncology. The breadth and depth of her knowledge and insight was only matched by her compassionate understanding for others. Her legacy will always be the many students she helped understand that we never stop learning.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday January 27, 2023, at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday January 28, 2023, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, South Fork; Father Joseph C. Nale, celebrant.
