Lillian M. Bennett

October 7, 1925 — November 11, 2022

Lillian Magdalena Bennett, 97, formerly of South Fork; was a loving wife, aunt, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at her home in Shippensburg, surrounded by loved ones on November 11, 2022.

She was born to Clara E. (Reiking) and John F. Abel on October 7, 1925. She had four brothers: Fritz, Ralph, Jake, and Charles, thus earning her name Sis. After graduating high school, Sis moved to Utah, where she met her husband, Bill Bennett. Sis often referred to Bill as her best friend. They eventually moved to Indiana, where they lived until Bill’s passing in 1989. They were happily married for 39 years.

Sis loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking delicious meals for her family. She never wrote down a recipe. Sis was a faithful woman who loved the Lord and enjoyed her church family. If you ever had the pleasure to meet Sis, you would know that she was kind, compassionate, selfless, and could find the good in anyone. She was thinking of others until her very last moments.

It seems unfair to list who preceded Sis’s death since she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Sis maintained a special friendship with her sister-in-law, MaryAnn Abel, the wife of her brother, Charles. Although Sis never had children of her own, she loved and adored her nieces and treated them as if they were her own: Clara Neek, Carole Gilroy, and Cathy Anderson. That connection continued with her great-nieces, Amy Laucella, Christa Lohr, and Ericka Frombach. Sis resided for many years with Mildred Frombach in South Fork and had great affection for her extended family, Rick, Stefanie, and Terry Frombach. She was Aunt Sis to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Aunt Sis never forgot a birthday over three generations; a card with a happy message would always arrive in the mail.

Honoring her wishes there will not be a public viewing or funeral service. A private viewing will be held for immediate family at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Interment, Chapel Lawns Memorial Gardens, Schererville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to: First United Methodist Church, 500 Maple Street, South Fork, PA 15956.

While pulling documents together, an old tattered paper was found in Sis’s wallet that is so fitting for the kindest, sweetest person that put other's needs before her own:

“This morning, when I wakened
And saw the sun above
I softly said, "Good morning, Lord
"Bless everyone I love."
Right away, I thought of you
And I said a loving prayer
That he would bless you, specially
And keep you free from care

I thought of all the happiness
A day could hold in store
I wished it all for you because
No one deserved it more

I felt so warm and good inside
My heart was all aglow
I know God heard my prayer for you
He hears them all, you know!”
