Kenneth E. Strayer

STRAYER – Kenneth E., 79, Portage, died July 9, 2018, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

Born November 13, 1938, in Johnstown, son of Ardell Strayer and Hazel (Smay) Strayer-McGarvey. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Twila J. Cameron; step-father, James McGarvey; and former wife, Reba K. (Herman) Strayer.

Survived by daughters, Sherri, wife of Paul Homyak, Ligonier; Tracy, wife of Gerald Kowalczyk, Summerhill; Renee, wife of Mark Hagerich, Portage; Kim Strayer, wife of Marty Oldham, Riddlesburg; and Dawn Strayer, Portage; grandchildren, Matt Krisko, Zack Homyak, Mikayla Homyak, Raymond Foreman, Lynsey Kowalczyk, Alicia (Hagerich), wife of J.R. Cunningham; and Nicholas Hagerich; great-grandchildren, Trey Lingafelt and Isaiah Hagerich; brother, Ronald “Buck” Strayer, Johnstown; and former companion, Sandy Kehn, Portage.

Ken was a graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, class of 1957. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion, Post 430. He retired from Bethlehem Steel and was the former owner of the Wild Cherry Inn, Portage. Ken enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Mount Hope, the Reverend Joseph Stains presiding.

Military rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551 immediately after the service.

Following cremation an inurnment service will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery.
