VARLJEN – Julia M., 79, South Fork, died October 10, 2017, at Laurelwood, Westmont. Born July 31, 1938, in South Fork, daughter of William R. and Martha E. (Plummer) Young. Preceded in death by parents; husband, John J. “Yak” Varljen Sr., who died March 23, 2010; sister, Mary Croyle; and brothers, Raymond, John and Joseph Young.
Survived by children, John Jr., married to Dr. Stephanie Toms, Hollidaysburg; Thomas, married to Patience (Myers), Flinton; Patrick, South Fork; Deborah, wife of Daniel Hilands, Richland; and Louis, South Fork; beloved grandchildren, Louis, Charles, Michael (Jamie), Luther, Alexander, Julieanna (Tyler), Maxwell, Alan (Katie), Amber, Megan, Katelyn and Joshua; cherished great-grandchildren, Christina, Matthew, Aidan and Hailey; sister, Jean Bunk, Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Julia was a graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, Class of 1956 and a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, South Fork. Former seamstress at Empire Foundations. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Beverly Lewis novels. One of her favorite places was camp at Coal Country Campground. Many wonderful memories were also made fishing and boating with family and friends at Prince Gallitzin and Lake Raystown.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where vigil will be held.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, by Father Joseph C. Nale.
