SWEGZDA – Julia, 92, formerly of South Fork, died March 14, 2020, at the Lutheran Home of Johnstown. Born November 26, 1927, in South Fork, daughter of Thomas Swegzda and Catherine (Wojtowicz) Swegzda-Turchak.
Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Josephine Holland, Anna Elchin, and Mary C. Sliko; and brothers, Matthew, Michael, and Steve Turchak. Survived by sister, Theresa Maryak, Tampa, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.
As a waitress at many Johnstown area restaurants (including Johnnies and the Act III) she offered more than good service. She offered the simple gesture of a kind smile to strangers and enduring friendships to her regular customers. Julia was a great student of her customers too. She learned many things about finance that allowed her to be independent through her whole life. She was kind and giving to her friends and family and donated to many, many charities through her life. In her final years, the nurses and personnel at the Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries who helped her, became a new family to her. Their dedicated efforts will long be remembered. Memorial contributions may be made to Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Maple Street, South Fork; Father Joseph C. Nale, presiding.
Committal, St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Fifficktown.
