SIVEC – John Jr., 77, Salix, died March 26, 2025. Born May 4, 1947, in Windber PA, son of John and Mary Irene (Oshaben) Sivec. Preceded in death by parents; and loving wife of fifty years, Flossie (Hufford), whom he married May 19, 1973.
Survived by two sons, John Sivec III (Amy Russian); and Mark Sivec; his beloved granddaughters, Drew and Julia; brother Neal (Mary Kay) Sivec and their family; as well as a very long list of loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and more nieces and nephews than one could imagine.
John was raised in St. Michael, and was a graduate of Triangle Area High School, class of 1965. In lieu of the Draft, he chose to join the Army in 1966 during the Vietnam conflict and served as an Intelligence Analyst, spending time overseas in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, completing his service in 1969. He graduated from UPJ with a bachelor’s degree in economics but found work at Bethlehem Steel. He spent most of his career at the Johnstown Plant working in Electrical Line and Construction, which took him to all corners of the plant. He worked for a total of thirty years at Bethlehem Steel, with the last year and a half at the Sparrows Point plant in Baltimore. After Bethlehem, he found a second career at Ener-Tech Associates in Johnstown and spent twenty additional years running the panel shop and passing on years of on-the-job knowledge to a second generation. He genuinely enjoyed his work, the people, and the life-long friendships.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working hard around the house, garage, and the yard, keeping a fleet of classic cars on the road, and keeping many acres of lawns and fields looking pristine. He joined in with his son Mark and the Johnstown Street Survivors attending many car shows and cruise-ins over the years.
