SMITH – Janet L., 85, Cresson, died September 4, 2018, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born May 11, 1933, in Summerhill Township, daughter of the late Boniface S. and Charlotte E. (Shrift) Smith.
Survived by sister, Reba (Smith) Vasas, widow of Charles P. “Chick” Vasas, Sidman; niece and godchild, Bonnie, wife of Donald Baer, Murietta, California; niece, Denise, wife of Robert Quesenberry, Haywood, Virginia; nephews, Keith, married to Mary Ann (Lapinsky), Windber; and Curt, married to Aspen Mock, Windber; and all their families.
Janet was a graduate of Wilmore High School, class of 1951. She was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson; and a devout Catholic who daily sought strength and guidance through prayer, the rosary and novenas. She worked for Antmart in Portage before studying drafting at Mount Aloysius College. She then worked as a drafting and mapping technician for L. Robert Kimball & Associates and later with CPS Surveys Inc. She was a talented award-winning artist who enjoyed sharing her works with family and friends. My sister was my buddy, we shared a lifetime together; gathering for family meals, going to church picnics or simply spending time with each other. Having her as my sister was a blessing and she will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore, Father Joseph C. Nale, Celebrant.
Committal, St. Bartholomew Cemetery, Wilmore.
Special thanks to her friends from Mountview Manor who kept in touch, and to all her friends that called, sent cards and visited.
The family is also especially grateful to the staff of Memorial Hospital, Arbutus Park Manor and Windber Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
