JONES – James E., 93, Salix, died January 5, 2019, at home. Born September 1, 1925, in Ashland, Wisconsin, son of John E. and Laura V. (Gray) Jones.
Preceded in death by parents; wife, Phyllis JoAnn (Roberts) Jones, who died December 22, 2012, whom he was married to for 66 years; sister, Valoyis and brothers, Daniel and John.
Survived by special nieces, Mary Jo and Judy and other beloved family and friends.
Jim was a US Navy veteran of WWII, assigned to Squadron 6 as an Instructor, Training Aircraft Gunnery, Torpedo and Bombing Techniques. Retired manager from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., Dubuque, Iowa. Member of the St. Michael American Legion Post 551 where he was a past Home Association President, a past Vice Commander, and a member of their ritual team. Jim had 70 consecutive years of service with the American Legion. Also a member of the South Fork Lions Club. Jim loved gardening, fishing and working outdoors. Special thank you to Windber Hospice nursing staff and the VA Home Care nurses.
Friends will be received from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, the Reverend Walter Startzel presiding.
Inurnment National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Pittsburgh. Military rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
