DOUGHERTY – James, “Doc,” 70, Portage, formerly of Summerhill Township, died October 19, 2018, at Windber Hospice. Born December 4, 1947, in Johnstown, son of William and Marian (Stombaugh) Dougherty-Baloga.
Preceded in death by parents; step-father, Michael Baloga; and sister, Barbara Klemens.
Survived by brothers and sisters, Harry (Doris) Dougherty, Johnstown; Jack (Winona) Baloga, Hazelton; Sally (Roger) Layton, Windber; Jeanne (Jim) Banks, St. Michael; Margaret “Mickey” Bevans, Johnstown; Mark (Jeanette) Baloga, Mt. Hope; Paul (Cindy) Baloga, Nanty Glo; Marian “Buttons” (Mark) Slebodnick, Portage; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Valerie McLain, Portage.
Doc was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served aboard the USS Constellation with his brother Harry. Member of VFW Post 7524, South Fork. He was a retired coal miner from Bethlehem Mine 33 and also worked for Burnworth Auto and the Portage Library. Doc enjoyed the outdoors and loved riding his quad.
Honoring his request there will be no public viewing or services. Private graveside service at Dunmyer Cemetery, Salix.
