BARISH – James R., 82, South Fork, died June 21, 2019, at Maple Winds Care Center. Born April 29, 1937, in Portage, son of Walter A. and Susan (Knapp) Barish.
Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Frances H. “Sis” (Mehall) Barish, who died September 10, 1988; son, Thomas, who died August 4, 1979; sister, Joanne M. Salovich; brother, Walter; son-in-law, Ted Baun; and brothers-in-law, Frank, Carl and Evan Mehall.
Survived by children, James E., South Fork, and special friend, Teresa Roth; Dawn Marie Baun, engaged to Tim Shuman, Johnstown; Frank A., Champlin, Minnesota; and Robert E., married to Jo Ellen (Zdep), Erie; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; fiancée, Alice Galosi, Ehrenfeld; sister, Cecelia “Babe,” wife of Ray Reighard; Greencastle; brother-in-law, David Mehall and wife Darlene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, South Fork. Graduate of Portage High School, class of 1955, where he played football and co-captained the 1955 East / West All-Star Game. Jim was an auto mechanic at Rudy Haupt Chevrolet, Johnstown; and worked as a service director at Jim Dolan Chevrolet, Somerset; Laurel Auto Group, Johnstown; and retired from Ourismon Motor Corp., Rockville, Maryland. Member of International Association of Machinists, former mayor and past member of South Fork Borough Council, Forest Hills Municipal Authority and Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Governments. Jim was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors, and fishing for steelhead at Lake Erie. He enjoyed the company of friends, spending time with family and was always ready to take Alice dancing.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where vigil will be held.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Father Joseph C. Nale Celebrant.
Following cremation, committal will be held at St. James Cemetery, South Fork.
