GABANY – Jacqueline Gwen, 84, Mineral Point, went to be with the Lord October 25, 2023. Born October 10, 1939, in Ehrenfeld “Devil’s Hollow”, daughter of Merlin C. “Pap” and Dorothy M. (Gay) Fyock. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Merlin E. “Merf” and sister, Marcia Fukas.
Survived by husband of 59 years, James A. “Butts” Gabany, whom she married May 2, 1964; daughters, Lisa Hart, married to John McCullough; and Annette, married to Mark Smiach; sons, James II, and Christopher, married to Erin (Litzinger); grandchildren, Zacharias (Ashley), Adelai, Chaysen (Kelley), Brooke (Cody), Gabriella, Sadie, Paityn and Nathan; great grandchild, Landon; numerous nieces and nephews and special caregiver Kim Yamrose.
Graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, class of 1957; she graduated from Mount Aloysius College with an associate’s degree, and earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Misericordia University. Gwen was a member of South Fork First Evangelical Church, where she was active with the Philathea Bible Class and served in many other capacities as a gifted and loving member of the congregation; she also served on several medical mission trips. Gwen was genuinely compassionate, determined, and resilient; she found great joy in caring for others. She began her career at the Ebensburg State Center; after years of perseverance and hard work, she began anew as a licensed occupational therapist. Gwen loved traveling throughout the state of PA caring for individuals in nursing facilities as an occupational therapist. She was proud of the quality of care that she and her husband provided as former owners of the South Fork Welcome Home. Gwen enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher and area Senior Center activity director; she loved traveling, gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, canning and ceramics. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Gwen was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and was lovingly known as “LadyO.”
Visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon Saturday at South Fork First Evangelical Church, the Reverend Randy Landman presiding.
