BASSETT – John L. “Jack,” 82, South Fork, died January 29, 2017. Born July 25, 1934, in Ferndale, son of William H. and Martha C. (Kelley) Bassett. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Joanne (Bassett) Kramer, son William C. Bassett and brothers, William and Alvin Bassett.
Survived by wife of 62 years, Joanne (Gage) Bassett, South Fork, whom he married December 31, 1954; children, Daniel, married to Janis (Moss), Johnstown; John L., married to Megan (Goodwin), South Fork; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Archie, Woodbridge, Virginia; George, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Melvin, Fredrick, Virginia; Gene, Forest Heights, Maryland; Sarah Souza, Campbell, California; Mary Hightower, Tucson, Arizona; Harry, North Kingstown, Rhode Island; Vida Bassett, South Fork; Leland, Portage; and Genetta Digman, Westerville, Ohio; aunt, Lillian Bopp; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends.
Jack worked as a welder in the car shop at Bethlehem Steel for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aerial photographer for 3 years. Member of First United Methodist Church, South Fork. He was also a member of the South Fork American Legion Post 653 and a former councilman of South Fork Borough.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Terry Trudgen officiating.
Interment, South Fork Cemetery.
