THOMAS, Helen, 91, St. Michael, loving wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with her Lord on February 9, 2022. Born March 18, 1930, in Portage; daughter of Peter and Mary (Smick) Ferchalk. She will be met in Heaven by her loving husband, Byron Thomas, whom she married on December 20, 1950; her parents; brothers, John and George Ferchalk, and sister-in-law, Dorothy.
Survived by son, Byron Thomas Jr., husband of Linda (Cummings), Sidman; daughter, Donna, wife of Ronald Crowell, South Fork; and brother, Leonard, husband of Melda (Berkebile), Somerset. After Byron’s passing, Helen’s purpose in life was her grandchildren: Brad Thomas, Ryan (Nicole), Jared (Heather), and Alecia Crowell; her great-grandchildren: Wade, Adessa, and Olena; and her step-great grandchildren: Heath & Mya. She was so proud of her grandchildren and absolutely loved cheering for them in various ways. Helen was a 1950 graduate of Beaverdale High School. She spent her early adult years as a military wife living with her in-laws learning how to cook & bake and making fond memories at Camp Hartley. Helen was a faithful steward & member of Sidman United Methodist Church, where she spent many years with the Ladies Circle and various other volunteer positions. She loved worshiping from the same pew every Sunday, watching Cubs baseball, and completing word searches.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork; the Reverend D. Bruce Keen presiding.
Interment, Dunmyer Cemetery.
