HILLEGAS – Grace C., 95, Davidsville, formerly of South Fork and Sidman, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 25, 2025, with her daughter by her side. Born August 10, 1929, in South Fork, daughter of Harry C. and Edna R. (Scutchall) Cummings. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Gomer E. Hillegas, who died June 5, 1967; special friend, Elvin L. Rhoads, who died June 28, 1999; brothers, Leo H. Sr. and wife, Geraldine (Diamond); Paul S., and wife, Violet (Miller); William; and Robert J. and wife, Janet (Stohon); sister, Betty and husband, Donald Galloway; nephew, Ronald G. Cummings; and nieces, Roberta (Hillegas) Deyarmin and Roberta (Cummings) Wonders.
Survived by endearing daughter, Gerri Elizabeth, wife of Jeffrey Borischak; sister-in-law, Barbara (Gallagher) Cummings; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews and their families. Grace was a 1947 graduate of South Fork High School and served as president of her Senior Class and Co-Editor of their Senior newspaper, “HiLites.” She also was a member of the band, orchestra, glee club, and was active in sports. She retired in 1991 after serving 40 years of Christian Ministry at First Lutheran Church, Johnstown, under the Ministries of Dr. Walden M. Holl and Dr. Robert Swanson. She was a former longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and current member of Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship; and a seventy-one-year member and past Matron of Anna L. Windolph Chapter #495, Order of Eastern Star and past Protector of the Dames of Malta. During her healthy years she enjoyed traveling and the great outdoors, having a special interest in hunting squirrels and deer in Bedford County. Grace was also a 14-year volunteer at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in the CT department. She also served as a caregiver for family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc. South Fork.
Visitation at the church from 1 p.m. until Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, the Reverend Jim Gay presiding. Interment, Schellsburg Cemetery, Bedford County.
