LeMAY – Gertrude R., 95, Sidman, died Feb. 15, 2016, at Hillsdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Hillsdale, Pa. Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Crowley, La., daughter of Joseph G. and Lovina (Herbert) Robichaux.
Preceded in death by parents and beloved husband, Sgt. Major Raymond A. LeMay, U.S. Marine Corps (retired), who died April 24, 2007.
Survived by sons, Brother Alan, Friars of the Atonement, Saranac, Lake, N.Y.; Paul, married to Judi (Posthumus), Canyon Country, Calif.; Michael, married to Polly Jo (Shaffer), Hershey; Mark, Long Beach, Calif.; and Kenan, married to Nancy Jo (Castel) Hilliard, Ohio; grandchildren, Joseph, Christopher, Sandy, K.J. and Kendra; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey, widow of Dave Petitjean, Crowley, La.; and numerous other beloved family and friends.
She was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Summerhill, their Altar Rosary Society and served as church secretary for many years. She enjoyed “dressing to the nines,” cooking authentic Cajun cuisine; especially her delicious gumbo, attending card parties, playing the piano, helping her husband in their vegetable garden and resting on her back porch swing. Gertrude had a great capacity for love and friendship, she touched many lives with her unique combination of wit, sincerity and generous spirit. She will be deeply and sadly missed by those who knew her.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where the Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m., followed by vigil for the deceased.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church, by Father Leon Hont, OSB. Committal,
St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.
