RUSSELL – Frederick D. “Fred,” 78, Sidman, went to be with the Lord November 22, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born July 14, 1939, in South Fork, son of James and Christina E. (Wilson) Russell. Preceded in death by parents; and brothers, the Reverends Roger and John Russell.
Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn “Carlie” (Hutzel), whom he married June 8, 1963; children, Jennifer A. Russell, State College; Heather B., wife of Allen Wilson, State College; Dr. Daniel F. Russell, married to Danielle (Shugars), South Fork; and Cristen A. Russell and Lee “Dink” Bush, both of State College; loyal dog, Cleo; grandchildren, Samantha, Sidney, Derrick, Alyssa, Caleb, Sarah, Jacob, Thomas, Elijah, and Olivia; step-grandchildren, Greg (Heidi), Brett and Todd; step-great-grandchildren, Ava, Noah and Ella; brother, the Reverend James Russell, and wife, Rebecca, Polk City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Stella Russell, Newton, Iowa; and Shirley Russell, Pittsburgh, and numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends.
Fred was a graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, class of 1957. U.S. Airforce Veteran of the Vietnam War. Retired, self-employed salesman representing M. Glosser & Sons. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sidman, where he taught Sunday school and served on Church Council. Fred enjoyed contributing to his community. He was a dedicated coach for over 20 years for everything from T-ball teams to St. Michael American Legion Baseball. He was also actively involved with the Salix chapter of Boy Scouts of America for more than 15 years. Member of St. Michael American Legion Post 551; South Fork Lions Club; and Member and President of Forest Hills School District Board of Directors for 20 years, where he helped facilitate the design and construction of the new Junior-Senior High School building. Fred’s greatest source of pride was his family. He and Carlie shared an unbreakable bond. His family and friends will hold dear memories of a loving, kind and generous man who was full of charm and courage.
Friends will be received from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Funeral Service will be held at Forest Hills Junior-Senior High School auditorium, 535 Locust Street, Sidman at 10 a.m. Monday, the Reverend Paula Schmitt officiating.
Interment, South Fork Cemetery.
