GRAY – Fred W., 85, Portage, was called to come home by our Lord on May 27, 2023. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born December 31, 1937, in St. Michael, the last surviving child of Fred E. and Kathryn (Allmond) Gray. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Willard (Frances) Hicks; sister, Twila (Blair) Ritchey; and nephew, Terry Ritchey.
Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Adeline “Cookie” (Sklodowski), whom he married April 27, 1963; daughter, Linda, married to Dennis Squillario, Portage; and son, Fred Wm., Florida; in-laws, Bill (Mary Jane) Sklodowski and Janet (Jim) Kick; and several nieces and nephews. He was “Pappy Fred” to great nephews, Ian and Patrick Munro and Blake Cieslo. Also survived by special friends, Jay, Wendy, and Esabela Flores who were always there to help.
Member of Holy Family Parish, Portage. Fred managed Costlow's Mink Ranch in Sidman for 35 years. He retired from Johnstown America Corp, and later, Lowes in Johnstown. He graduated from Adams-Summerhill High School, class of 1955 and served 6 years with the Army Reserves 458th Engineer Battalion, Johnstown. Fred’s passion was gardening, where weeds never had a chance to grow. We hold dear memories of vacations to Cook Forest, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Idaho, Massachusetts, Mexico, and Aruba.
Honoring his request, visitation will be private.
Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday May 30, 2023, at Holy Family Church, Caldwell Avenue, Portage; Father Thomas Stabile, T.O.R, celebrant.
