BAKALE - Edward G., 85, Johnstown, went to be with our Lord on Easter, April 16, 2017. Born May 6, 1931, in Dunlo, son of Stephen and Barbara (Matlin) Bakale. Preceded in death by loving wife, Patricia (Smith) Bakale, having celebrated 57 years of marriage; parents; brothers, Ernest (infant), Stephen and Joseph Bakale; brothers-in-law, Tony Naglic, Michael Fedore, David Wess and Edward Pristas.
Survived by children, Kimberly, wife of Joel Miller, Johnstown; Edward Bakale Jr., Johnstown; and Jay Bakale, married to Cheryl (Kitchen), Duncansville; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Alec Bakale, and Aaron, Natalie and Nicole Miller. Also survived by brother, Robert (Marge), Altoona; and sisters, Mary Naglic, Tigard, Oregon; Mildred Fedore, Beaverdale; Eleanor (John) Estok, Cleveland, Ohio; Delores (Anthony Jr.) Gwizdak, Carroltown; Jane Pristas, Pittsburgh; Barbara Wess, New Germany; and Darlene (Stephen) Berzansky, Plymouth, Massachusetts; sisters-in-law, Marge Bakale and Anita Bakale, Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Korean Veteran, U.S.A.F. tactical command for four years and trained allied foreign pilots on C-45 transports at Shephard AFB, Texas; and Chanute AFB, Illinois. Pharmaceutical sales representative, entrepreneur with environmental chemicals, GSA Contracting, and the coal industries. Member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Johnstown for more than 50 years; Croatian Fraternal Union; secretary-treasurer, Johnstown Pilots Association; Cub Scout Leader; sponsor/coach/manager for T-Shirt, Little League and Junior Baseball Leagues. Pittsburgh Pirate Scout for several years including with the 1979 World Series Championship team. Enjoyed family, children, grandchildren, gardening, bird and squirrel observing, travelling and wood-working. Assisted with many church and community needs and projects. An avid fan of grandchildren’s activities and sports teams, and the Pirates and Steelers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday April 21, 2017 at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Maple Street, South Fork, where a vigil will be held Friday.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 609 Park Avenue, Johnstown, 15902, by Fr. Walter Moll.
