MATHIESON – Devon W. “Cotton,” 85, Summerhill, died September 27, 2019, at home. Born March 16, 1934, in Ehrenfeld, last surviving child of Wallace “Amos” and Esther (Varner) Mathieson.
Preceded in death by parents, beloved wife, Dolores Y. (Hudak) Mathieson, who died October 5, 2010; grandson, Dennis Aaron Mathieson; sisters, Melverta M. “Bert” Stanley; and brothers, Wallace and Mearl.
Survived by children, Sandra “Sam,” wife of Greg Stefanik, Summerhill; Dennis, married to Donna (Nadonley) Waynesburg; Linda, wife of Barry Strayer, Ponchatoula, Louisiana; and John, married to Peggy (Lonsinger), Shermans Dale, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and another great-great-grandson on the way.
Member of St. John Lutheran Church, Summerhill. Cotton was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and served with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Retired crane operator for Bethlehem Steel and former bus driver with McIlwain Bus Company. Member of St. Michael American Legion Post 551 and their ritual team; and former Chaplain for Portage American Legion Post 430. Cotton enjoyed washing his car, hunting, spending time with family, and making others laugh.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, the Reverend Toby Holland presiding.
Interment, St. Bartholomew Cemetery.
