WESS - Dean Edward, 78, of New Germany, passed away peacefully March 16, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 30, 1939, in Johnstown, PA. Son of the late Simon and Pauline (Kibler) Wess.
Dad joins our sweet mother and his beloved wife of 34 years, Judith (Tully) Wess, who died April 18, 1992. Also preceded in death by brother Eugene.
Dad is survived by his children, Lynne (Douglas) James, Greensburg; Kimberly (Robert) Burkett, New Germany; Patrick (Amy) Wess, Richland; Damian (Kim) Wess, Bedford; Karen Shrefler, New Germany; Laurie (Greg) Madison, Summerhill; and Anthony (Melissa) Wess, Bellefonte. Dad enjoyed time spent with his 16 grandchildren, Eric and Ian James; Jason (Ashley) and Jonathan Burkett; Abigail (Philip), Caleb, and Claire Wess; Lauren (Kurt), Olivia, and Emma Wess; Nicholas and Claudia Shrefler; Maggie (Trenton) and Logan Madison; and Gabriel and Grayson Wess, great-granddaughter, Reese Burkett. Also survived by loving companion of 24 years, Judith Schrift; brothers, Raymond (June) Wess and Donald Wess; and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Wess, all of New Germany.
Dad was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Germany. Dad retired from General Telephone Company and Wess Energy (owner). He was also a barber and a former employee of Penn Dot. Dad had a passion for collecting and restoring antique snowmobiles. Member of the Laurel Run Rod & Gun Club, Ebensburg Country Club, Chickaree Ridge Runners, Skagburners Snowmobile Club and East Kane Sportsmen’s. Honorary lifetime member and former Chief (1965-67) of the Summerhill Boro Volunteer Fire Company. When Dad wasn’t on the golf course, he spent many weekends hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling with his family and friends at Rough Cut Lodge, his camp in Kane, PA. We will cherish our memories of a young-spirited father who loved and lived life to the fullest. “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.
Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, where vigil will be held Sunday.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Leon Hont, OSB, Celebrant.
