Dave P. Wright

WRIGHT – Dave P., 81, Wilmore, passed away peacefully at home February 2, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born June 26, 1943, in Wilmore. Preceded in death by parents, Harry J. “Buzz” and K. Ruth (Mangus) Wright; infant twin sons, Kevin and Kenneth; brothers, Norman Bruce “Dutch” and Wendell D. Wright; and father and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Violet Ross.

Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Velda K. (Ross) Wright; children, Keith (Kim), Kurt (Jess), Wendy, and Mindy (Tim); brother, George Earl (Nancy); sisters, Ida Beyer (Ed) and Cindy Penatzer (Dave); grandchildren, Lacey, Katie (Brody Batdorf), Sara, Josh, and Erin; and great grandchildren, Lincoln, Luke, Brooklyn, and Levi. 

Dave’s life was one of hard work, dedication, and a passion for what he did. He spent many years working for E.P. Bender Coal Co. and Cooney Bros. Coal Co. He was the former owner and operator of Wright’s Excavating and for over 20 years, Dave and Velda carried on his parents’ legacy, operating Wright’s Butcher Shop, where they built lasting relationships with the people they served. Dave had a passion for Percheron Draft Horses, a bond that rooted him to the land and brought him joy. He also had a special place in his heart for his trusted Farmall Tractors. Above all, Dave was a family man. He cherished family gatherings, always looking forward to the time spent with those he loved most. He was never one to meet a stranger— his warmth, humor, and kindness made him a friend to everyone he met. 

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork, Deacon Richard Golden, presiding. 

Interment, Mount Olive Cemetery.
