Charlie Lamer

February 19, 1946 — November 5, 2024

LAMER - Charles “Charlie,” 78, Portage (New Germany), passed away peacefully November 5, 2024; at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 19, 1946, in Ebensburg, son of Joseph and Bernadette (George) Lamer. Preceded in death by parents; brothers Howard, William, Joseph, Eugene, and Don Lamer; sisters Cleo Vandenbergh, Ruth Silver, Virginia Craig, Sarah Snechinski, and Bernadette Pangersis; and best friend Dale Stormer. 

Survived by loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn (Stefanik) Lamer; children, Charles (wife Hope) Lamer; and Carla (husband Allan) Minor; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Katie, Isaac, and Dalaney Lamer; Megan and Lucas Minor; sisters Regina Dubois, Juanita Funyak and Darlene (David) Swickline; in-laws, Thomas (Marianne) Stefanik, Barbara (Leroy) Smith, James (Kathy) Stefanik, Greg (Sam) Stefanik, and Jack Vandenbergh; and many nephews and nieces. 

Charlie was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 110 and worked for Lyons Cable Industries for 44 years, finishing his career at Lyons Electric Motor Co. as a First-Class welder. The highlight of his career was helping to restore the Johnstown, PA trolley car #355 for the Rockhill Trolley Museum in Orbisonia, PA. Member of PA Trappers Association, he enjoyed the great outdoors, was an excellent sportsman, who loved hunting, fishing and especially trapping for which he won several awards for his furs. He loved to complete woodworking projects and was always ready to help with projects his family came up with. His love for his family was evident in all he built, including the family home. 

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.

The family wishes to thank Linus, Billy, Amber, Rusty, Sue, and UPMC Hospice for their kindness and support. In memory of Charlie, please take a drive with someone you love, stop off for an ice cream, and enjoy the wildlife you see along the way.
