BERTOLINO – Catherine M. “Kay”, 91, St. Michael, died February 14, 2022, at Forest Hills Personal Care Home. Born January 18, 1931, in St. Michael, daughter of the late Evan and Caroline E. (Ivock) Evacko.
Survived by husband of 68 years, Peter Bertolino, whom she married September 5, 1953; daughter, Cathy, wife of Jeff Madison, Harrisburg; grandchildren, Jonathan, Fullerton, California; and Erin, Harrisburg; sisters, Margaret Evacko, St. Michael; and Dorothy (John) Dzmura, Hooversville; brother, Robert (Jean) Evacko, Sidman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Bon Aire, where she was an active and loving member of the parish and enjoyed making pierogies for the Lenten Fish Fries. Kay was a graduate of Adams Township High School, class of 1949 and attended paraprofessional classes at Vo-Tech, where she earned high honors. Member of St. Michael Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. For many years she worked as a cafeteria aide at the former Wilmore Elementary School. Later, she worked as a library assistant and retired as a secretary from the Forest Hills Elementary School. As a breast cancer survivor of 33 years, her hope, courage, and optimism were an inspiration to all. She enjoyed visiting the South Fork Library, trips to the casino, and breakfast with friends at Rita’s in Summerhill. She was an avid fan of the Forest Hills Rangers and Pittsburgh Steelers, loved solving word puzzles and playing Yahtzee, and especially cherished writing letters (with flawless penmanship) to her granddaughter.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 408 Luzon Avenue, Johnstown; Father Callistus Elue, celebrant.
