Andy Peretin

PERETIN – Andy Louis, “Andy Who, Ush,” 74, Johnstown, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Andy was born November 27, 1942, in St. Michael, son of Charles Jr. and Anna (Slanac) Peretin. Preceded in death by parents; infant sister, Barbara; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Audrey Peretin; brother, Mark Peretin and father-in-law, Walter Hite. Left to honor his memory is his loving and cherished wife of 43 years, Nancy (Hite); beloved daughters, Melissa, wife of David Raho; and Amy, wife of Wyatt McGraw, both of Johnstown. His grandchildren Luke, Emmett and Andy were his joy. He is also survived by brother, Martin and wife Patricia Peretin, Sidman; sister, Mary Ann Peretin-DeRosa, St. Michael; sister-in-law, Carol Peretin, Sidman; mother-in-law, Thelma Hite, Johnstown; sister-in-law, Lynett Hite, Wynnewood; and brother-in-law, Richard and wife Debbie Hite, Johnstown. He held a special place in his heart for his surviving nieces and nephews, Chad Peretin, Cher Peretin, Anne (Mark) Lester, Matt (Velina) Peretin, Kenny (Pam) Peretin, Stan Peretin, Brian (Jessica) Peretin, Ed (Christine) Peretin, Jared (Allison) Peretin, Amanda Peretin, Amber Peretin, Jake Peretin, Rick (Karen) Hite, and Greg Hite. He was blessed to also have 24 great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. Andy graduated from Adams-Summerhill High School, class of 1960. He attended Catawba College, Salisbury, North Carolina; and graduated in 1964 with a degree in History. He received a scholarship to play football and also was the catcher for the baseball team. After college he returned to St. Michael and taught for 2 years at Adams-Summerhill. He then went to work for Bethlehem Steel and retired from Johnstown America Corporation in 1997 after 31 years of service. Andy was blessed with a kidney transplant in 2006 which gave us nine more wonderful years to create memories with him. He had a passion for sports. In his younger years he loved playing football, baseball and basketball. Being a season ticket holder, he enjoyed the Steelers and followed the Pirates. He loved to play golf and was a former member of Windber Country Club, a past social member of the American Legion Post 551, St. Michael, and a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. He had a passion for reading and always had a book in his hand. He also loved to watch Jeopardy. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., South Fork. Following cremation a committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
