BORTEL – Ronald Gene, 85, Clearfield, native of Sidman, died June 12, 2021, at Mountain Laurel Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Born January 10, 1936, son of Robert F. and Ruby E. (Smay) Bortel.
Preceded in death by parents; brother, Gerald A. Bortel; former wife, Naomi M. (Reighard) Bortel, and niece, Tina Giesen.
Survived by son, David Alan, Danville; daughter, Debra A. Bortel-Heath, wife of Craig Heath, Lorton, Virginia; dear friend, Bonnie “Bobbi” Eckberg, Philipsburg; grandchildren, Kaylee, Amanda, Ashley (Lamont), Alicia, and Austin; great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Trey; Bobbi’s sons, Gregg Eckberg and David (Lori) Eckberg and their children, Jadyn and Zachary; sister-in-law, Mildred Bortel, and niece, Brenda A. Gibson and her family.
Graduate of South Fork – Croyle High School, class of 1953. Ron was a Sergeant with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, having served from 1955 to 1963. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield, past member of the Philipsburg Kiwanis Club, and served as a governor of Best Western Inc. Ron loved his role as V.P. of Operations for Harbor Inn Inc., capping a distinguished career that spanned more the 30 years in the hotel and hospitality industry. He was highly respected among colleagues and will be forever loved by family and friends. He taught by example the art of being a true gentleman, inspiring in others the importance of truth, honor, and integrity.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday June 20, 2021, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday June 21, 2021 at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Maple Street, South Fork; Chaplain Roger McGary presiding.
Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown.
